Managing Course Folders
Course Folders are used to separate different modules for a particular course. Each time a new course is created in Icare, two Course Folders are automatically entered into Icare for you. These default Course Folders are:
- Core
- Electives
Although these Course Folders will have been set up as a default, you have a number of different options. You can:
- Use the two default Course Folders (if they are relevant for the course)
- Keep the default Course Folders but also add additional Course Folders
- Delete the default Course Folders and create your own Course Folders (which are more relevant for the course).
The number of Course Folders and the names assigned to them will really depend on the course type and the procedures within the RTO.
For some shorter courses, it might be that only one Course Folder is required.
When deciding on Course Folders, it is a good idea to take into consideration the RTOs Learning and Assesment Strategy (LAS) and/or the relevant course packaging rules. It may be that you set up your Course Folders to reflect the groupings in these documents. Below are two examples that are linked to the relevant packaging rules for the chosen courses.
Example: BSB50407 Diploma of Business Administration
- Packaging Rules
- Total number of units = 8 elective units
- 5 elective units must be selected from the Group A units listed below.
- The remaining 3 elective units may be selected from the Group B units listed below, or any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at the same qualification level. If not listed below, 1 unit may be selected from either a Certificate IV or Advanced Diploma qualification.
This course could be setup with the following Course Folders:
- Group A
- Group B
Example: TLI31210 Certificate II in Driving Operations
- Packaging Rules
- Requirements for completion of the qualification:
- A successful assessment outcome for a total of 18 to 20 units of competency (depending on the group) comprising:
- 6 core units listed below
- plus at least one licensing or industry unit relevant to the vehicle type applicable to the job role, listed below
- plus all units within one of the selected group (job roles), as listed below
- plus 6 elective units which may be taken from the elective units listed below, or may include up to 3 units drawn with appropriate contextualisation from this Training Package, and/or from Certificate III qualifications in other relevant nationally endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
This course could be setup with the following Course Folders:
- Core
- License Unit
